We meet candidates through on-campus interviews, resume collectsand write-in applications during the recruiting season. You can apply for a 2Lsummer associate position here.

There is no formal rotation system for assignments. Summer associates are able to customize their experience with our “free market” assignment system, which allows you to take work assignments from our database and attorneys in a variety of different practice groups. Each summer associate will be assigned associate assignment managers who filter work to you and ensure that you are receiving the types of assignments that interest you.

In addition to day-to-day appraisals of your work, summer associates receive two formal reviews that provide valuable feedback on all of the work assignments completed throughout the summer. Your reviews will be conducted by both your partner mentor and the partner liaison from the practice group of your choice.

Each summer associate is expected to work on at least one pro bono assignment during their 10 weeks at the Firm. Learn more about our pro bono opportunities here.

Summer associates are offered a variety of in-house trainings and consultant-led workshops aimed at enhancing communication, technology, negotiation and networking skills. You will also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a writing coach. You will get to know our practice groups by participating in substantive trainings and hands-on assignments, including conference calls, court visits, and client meetings. Trainings will continue throughout your career at Cadwalader.
